Immuvit Fearless Challenge Trail Run 2012 – LEG 1

This will be tomorrow. I’m excited. But I’m only half as excited as the moment I learned about this event. I was supposed to run with my fiance Bern for the 10K category.

This would have been her 2nd 10K run.

This would have been our 2nd run together because I promised to run with her on categories longer than 5K which is her comfortable distance at the moment.

I could see the spark of excitement in her eyes the moment I told her about this race. She was jumping when we were watching the Spartan Race Miami to where this race was inspired.

She loves the trail much more than the road. The obstacle make her more excited. But sadly, the lack of training makes me decide the last minute not to let her join. For months, she stopped running. Two weeks ago, I’ve been pushing her to start preparing for this race. I train in the morning but she’s not a morning person. So I wanted to adjust my training. Do the half in the morning and the other half is with her in the afternoon. It was hard because it rains in the afternoon. She doesn’t want to run in the rain also. So, I ran out of option. I decided not to let her join.

The moment I was signing the registration form, she was very sad. I felt the pain. It was also very painful for me. But I couldn’t risk her safety. There are still lots of trail runs coming. I just have to be more creative in designing a training scheme that could make her hit the road again. Maybe after I bought her favorite Salomon trail running shoes.

Pinoy Fitness LSD @ The Fort, Aug 12, 2012

After the habagat crushed the center and northern part of the country, many of the fun runs were cancelled. Pinoy Fitness organized an LSD (Long Slow Distance) run at The Fort last August 12. I joined the 20K, 7min/km pace group. This is the first time I joined a group run because I’m contented of just having my training alone. It was fun. I met a lot of runners which I only knew from the web. We shared drinks and snacks. But the most exciting part was, It was not a LSD after all because after a few kilometers, we got excited and ran as fast as 5min/km leaving our pacer behind. The target finish time which was 2 hours and 20 min became 1 hour and 40min. We called that LFD or Long Fast Distance run. And LSD became a tempo run. Fun!
